Here's a little about the wines and the winemaker.

Johan Viljoen - Winemaker, Viticulturist and Braai Master of South Africa

Johan Viljoen is a winemaker from South Africa. In 2021, we first tasted some of the wines that Johan made and loved them. Later we met Johan whfile visiting Stellenbosch in South African, tasted more wines and experienced his hospitality while showing the winery and vineyards.

He has been known to have a mid day braai (South Africa n for cookout or bar-b-que) to make his guest feel welcome. We have become fond of him as well. 

     

More than a winemaker, Johan is a viticulturist too and spends a lot of time working in and managing the vineyards for his wine and does consulting for other vineyards. Johan says “Wine is made in the Field” and he wants the wine to reflect the land and climate where it is grown.

This past week we were able to briefly visit Johan in Cary where he was introducing more folks to his wines and just how good South African wines can be.
