Artwalk Friday Aug 10 - Wine Tasting

Friday August 10th from 5-8pm, Nautical Wheelers will be participating in New Bern’s ArtWalk. This month’s theme is Touch & See: Art you can Feel. Artists and storefront locations will be collaborating in order to create activities that Craven County residents who are visually impaired are able to participate in.

Local Oriental artist, Rosalyn Kutchins, will be showing her hand blown glass work at Nautical Wheelers New Bern. She accents her art with metals and semi precious stones in order to create one of a kind pieces. Rosalyn is a member of numerous local art councils in addition to donating several of her pieces to local charities. Rosalyn was awarded first place for glass craft and jewelry at the GFWC NC Art Festival in 2015 and 2016. Her studio, Honu Lampworks, is located in Oriental, NC.

In addition to Rosalyn’s work, Nautical Wheelers will also be presenting a mystery wine tasting. This is going to be a special event because the wine being tasted will be a surprise and the only way to find out is to try it. The tasting is going to be hosted by our very own Bill Wheeler and Heather Johnson.

You are not going to want to miss this event!

ArtWalk and Staff Favorite’s Wine Tasting at Nautical Wheelers in Downtown New Bern June 8

This upcoming Friday, June 8th from 5-8pm is the monthly ArtWalk in Downtown New Bern. Nautical Wheelers UnCorked Wine Tasting is during this event and we host a free informational wine tasting.

We will be pouring 4 of our staff’s favorite wines including a sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, zinfandel, and cabernet sauvignon.
First wine on the list is Sivas Sonoma, a light and crisp sauvignon blanc from California. With a good balance between natural acidity and minerality, pairs well with crab cakes on a sunny day.

Our store manager Chrissie’s favorite and “go-to” wine is the Custard chardonnay, it is a rich, complex, refreshing wine with the perfect balance of crispness and creaminess.

Lindsay’s favorite is next on the list, Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a fruit-forward wine with finely structured tannins and delicate acidity, pairs well with grilled steak and roasted veggies.

Our next wine will be Janis’s favorite, a zinfandel called Plungerhead. A plush, aromatic wine with complex flavors, good balance and a lingering finish. Delicious with grilled cheeseburgers.

Built for Relaxing - Poly-Wood Chairs in New Bern & Oriental

Relaxing, OK there is something about an adirondack chair that is relaxing. You can start to relax by just looking at one and then imagine sitting in front of the river with a cold drink and your flip flops kicked off to the side. For complete relaxation, you need to sit down in an adirondack. The wide chair arms have plenty of room to support your arms, that drink and even a small snack. Some of our adirondack chairs even have a built in ottoman that slides out. The seat and back slope to support your body and often lead to a perfect afternoon nap. Are you ready for your own adirondack?

If you have you been by Nautical Wheelers in Oriental, NC this week, you have seen the dozens and dozens of new adirondack chairs and side tables that just arrived. Kara and Bill have been busy assembling all of this furniture, so it is ready for local delivery in time for Memorial Day weekend and to be enjoyed all summer long.

Nautical Wheelers carries comfortable adirondack chairs and outdoor furniture by Poly-Wood. Each of these chairs is built from about 500 recycled milk jugs in Syracuse, Indiana then shipped to Nautical Wheelers so we can attach the arms and back then deliver them to our local customers near Oriental and New Bern, NC. At Nautical Wheelers there is never a charge for assembly and local delivery and if you live far away, we will ship to you at no additional charge.

Stop by Nautical Wheelers, see the colors, styles and what it’s like to relax in one of these adirondack chairs.

ArtWalk and Italian Wine Tasting at Nautical Wheelers in Downtown New Bern May 11

Four very different Italian wines were tasted on a beautiful spring evening. Here’s a recap.

L’armangia Moscato D’Asti, which was a hit for people who like sweeter wines but with a little bubbles.

Next we poured Madonna Bruna Passerina, a light crisp white wine that is a blend of 80% passerina and 20% pecorino. Everyone tasting wanted some fresh shrimp to enjoy with! Perfect light white wine for those hot summer days.

We moved on to the Lambrusco Portici Salamino Rosso, which a lot of people were surprised by how much they enjoyed it. Lambrusco’s were very popular in the 1970s, then Prosecco became more popular and Lambrusco was forgotten about. Now Lambrusco is back and better than ever, we even sold out during the tasting. A dry yet sweet bubbly red wine that’s chilled? How cool.

Our last wine of the night was Guiliana Monferrato Rosso, a red blend based with Barbera, Freisa, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Slight notes of redberries, tobacco and plum hints on the palate. Red wine drinkers loved this fruity, complex and full bodied wine.
